OTG announced as 2020 Rhodes Scholar

Congratulations to Patrick Maclean (OTG 2013) who was yesterday announced as the Victorian recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship for 2020.

Patrick commenced at Trinity in Year 5, and quickly involved himself in all aspects of school life. He was a Prefect in Year 12, as well as being Captain of Community Service and School Kayaking Captain. His academic achievements were most impressive, and led to him undertaking a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery (Hons) at Monash University.

Over the past few years, Patrick has volunteered overseas and mentored young people to build resilience and broaden their horizons through sport. He has continued his passion for kayaking outside of school as both a competitor and coach, and volunteers on his club’s committee.

The oldest and one of the most prestigious international graduate scholarship programs, the Rhodes Scholarships were established in 1903, and applicants are expected to demonstrate exceptional academic achievements, character, leadership and commitment to service. Each year, nine Rhodes Scholarships are available for outstanding Australians.

Patrick now becomes one of only three Old Trinity Grammarians to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, and will study along the best and brightest students from around the world at Oxford University.

Congratulations on this outstanding achievement, Patrick!
