Congratulations to team Zero Friction (Alec Alder – Year 10, Adam Blunt – Year 10, Thomas Bugno – Year 11, Matthew Carlyon – Year 11, Charles Palfreeman – Year 9, and Nikolas Zafiropoulos – Year 11) who represented Australia and Trinity at the Formula 1 in Schools World Final held in Singapore during the holidays. The Gala Awards evening was an impressive event held in the Sentosa Resort Ballroom, and attended by approximately 600 people, including Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey, and a number of Singaporean dignitaries.

The F1 in Schools competition is a multi-disciplinary test of skills encompassing science, technology, engineering, maths, design and management. Teams design and manufactured a miniature F1 car using industry-standard 3D design, CNC milling and aerodynamics software packages. Just like a real Formula 1 team, they collaborate with industry and universities, and sought sponsorship to fund their project, including their travel to the competition in Singapore.

Trinity has an exceptional Design and Technology faculty, offering accelerated learning opportunities and access to the latest industry standard design and manufacturing technologies including CAD/CAM software CATIA (used by Airbus, Boeing, McLaren F1 and many others), Autodesk, 3D printing, Laser cutting and engraving, smoke tunnels and wind tunnels (real and virtual CFD).
